The Working Group's History...
In November 2010, a Division J ad-hoc committee on diversity and inclusion proposed the idea of developing working groups related to issues of class, race, gender, and intersectionality. A goal of these working groups was to develop conversations around these topics to strengthen our understanding of the research in this area and engage in a meaningful discussion of these constructs beyond the scope of typical paper presentations. Our Division J leadership took on this idea and sponsored four working groups at our annual meeting in New Orleans. Kristen Renn, Michigan State University, and Jarrett Gupton, University of Minnesota led the conversation for the intersectionality group. Following this initial meeting, an informal group continued to meet over the summer to discuss their work related to intersectionality. This group has been led by Tami Moore, Oklahoma State University; Jim Olive, Ashland University; Rich Reddick, University of Texas, Austin; and Kristan Venegas, University of Southern California. It is our hope that this Wiki will serve as a source of information, as well as a means through which to continue the dialogue on the topic of intersectionality.
